But when I’m driving with my clients through Northern Italy — windows half-open, mountains on both sides, and the scent of vineyards or pine trees in the air — I always think the same thing:

“If only they knew what’s hiding up here…”

Northern Italy isn’t loud.
It doesn’t beg to be photographed.
It simply welcomes you — slowly, quietly, deeply.

This isn’t a list of destinations.

Five places where I would live, without hesitation.

1️⃣ Lake Iseo (Lombardy)

Where I go when I need to breathe.

Every time I drive toward Lake Iseo, I feel my shoulders drop.
The road narrows, the water appears between the houses, and suddenly everything slows down.

If Lake Como is the fancy cousin, Iseo is the one who cooks for you, sits with you, and tells you stories.

The villages are small.
The mountains feel protective.
And Monte Isola — that island rising from the lake — feels like time stopped somewhere in the 1960s, in the best possible way.

Some of my happiest clients bought here without ever seeing the property in person first.

Here I’ve seen the purest version of Italian mountain life:
bread baked at home, neighbors who genuinely help each other, children playing outside until sunset.

Many of my clients who are tired of city pressure — remote workers, artists, couples — come here and say:
“This feels like the life we’ve been looking for.”

And the best part?
It’s still affordable.
One of the few places in Italy where prices and quality of life still make sense.

4️⃣ Lake Maggiore

Elegance without effort.

Lake Maggiore is different.
It’s soft, romantic, international — the kind of place where the world feels slightly more refined.

When I walk the promenade in Stresa with clients, there’s always a moment where they stop and whisper:
